Shared hosting, VPS or cloud: which is right for your project?

Is shared hosting less secure than a VPS?

When to move to a VPS

Consider a VPS if:

• your application needs specific software (always-on Node.js, Redis, queues, particular versions);
• your website regularly outgrows shared resources (slowdowns at peak times despite optimisation);
• you host several client websites and want to control the environment;
• you have the skills (or a provider) to administer a Linux server: security updates, firewall, backups, monitoring.

Do I need a VPS for a WordPress website?

Rarely. A well-optimised WordPress site (caching, compressed images, a reasonable number of plugins) runs very well on quality shared hosting. A VPS makes sense for high-traffic shops or sites with many simultaneous logged-in users.

When to think about cloud or dedicated

Cloud and dedicated servers are for heavier projects: high-traffic platforms, critical business applications, large-scale data processing, and high-availability needs across several servers. They require a proper technical team and a matching budget.

5. Does my host answer me in my language, on the channels I use?
